Breast Cancer- An Update

Cancer is a disease in the centre stage of Health discussions in Kerala for past decade. The increasing population of cancer patients and the morbidity associated with the disease provides insight into its resultant economic and social impact. The need for early detection of cancer and provision for effective and affordable treatment are thrust areas in cancer control programs in the state. The need to incorporate essential oncology in curriculum of undergraduate medical students is gaining momentum. As a part of propagating the importance of oncology education and awareness in the Kerala, the cancer centers in Kerala and various oncology departments in various medical colleges could initiate campaign. The professional associations such as Kerala Association of Surgical Oncology conduct regular academic sessions and conferences in the state. One of the best moment surged was the opportunity to host the national conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO) for the year 2018(NATCON 2018) in Trivandrum under the banner of KASO. As a prelude to the mega national event, a series of pre-conference CMEs on oncology are planned in various districts of Kerala in the name of Tour of KASO (ToK).

The conference is expected to benefit practicing oncologists, general surgeons and medical students. The academic sessions will be multidisciplinary and they are expected to help update delegates on practical aspects of management of breast cancer and the importance of multidisciplinary discussions in cancer management and decision making. We welcome all medical professionals treating cancer to avail the wonderful opportunity to learn and interact with experts in the field.
